PanOptix Trifocal dominates Cataract Philadelphia
Surgeon James S. Lewis, MD
Alcon’s PanOptix implant, a second generation trifocal, provides continuous focus without glasses for tasks like driving, reading, and computer use. PanOptix has been available outside the US for a half dozen years and it is driving the premium intraocular lens markets in Canada, Australia, and Europe. Our practice uses advanced intraocular lens power calculation methods to select the ideal PanOptix or PanOptix Toric implant for appropriate patients.
About PanOptix
The AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL is a type of multifocal IOL used to focus images clearly onto the back of your eye (retina) to allow clear vision after the cataract removal. In addition, the center of the AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal IOL allows for better near (reading) vision and intermediate (computer work) vision versus what a monofocal lens would provide.
Ocular health, anatomy, and visual needs drive implant selection. Management of dry eye and corneal astigmatism are fundamental to a successful surgery. Sometimes this involves pre-operative treatment of meibomian gland dysfunction. Intraocular lens power calculations, especially methods utilizing posterior corneal curvature and a fourth generation formula, improve clinical results. We use multiple technologies and an in-house algorithm to optimize calculations. Finally, an honest assessment of visual goals and disposition are fundamental to implant selection.
